Library Information
Gift Policy
Criss Library appreciates donations of books and other library materials. Anyone interested in donating material to the library should contact Robert Nash, Collection Development Librarian, at (402)554-2884 or by Email. Any gifts of potential use to the library will be accepted on behalf of the library by the Collection Development Librarian. If there is a large amount of gift material, it may be necessary to make an on-site examination before the donation is accepted. Normally, the Criss Library cannot pick up gift materials from the donor. In the interest of providing a quality library collection for its diverse community of users, all gifts are accepted with the understanding that the library is free to use them in the way which will best serve the needs of the library and its users. Materials may therefore be added, sold, or discarded. The library will also determine where in the collection materials are best located. If a donor wishes to place restrictions on a gift, those restrictions must first be approved by the Collection Development Librarian in consultation with other appropriate library staff BEFORE the gift will be accepted. In accordance with Internal Revenue Service requirements and the Standards for Ethical Conduct for Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Librarians adopted by the Association of College and Research Libraries, Criss Library, as an interested party, cannot make appraisal of gifts. This is the responsibility of the donor. If the donor wishes, however, he or she can be referred to various reference sources regarding appraisal materials and/or given the names of professional appraisers. The acceptance of a gift which has been appraised by an outside agency does not imply an endorsement of the appraisal by the library. The library does not provide itemized lists of materials donated. Every donor, however, will receive a letter of acknowledgment for his or her gift unless he or she requests otherwise. Names of donors may also be listed in various Library and University publications. If a donor does not wish to be recognized publicly in this manner, he or she should inform the Collection Development Librarian within two weeks of receiving the letter of acknowledgment. |
